Interesting Things Students in the Gifted Program Are Doing

Janice C. (Gr. 11) got herself a mentor in her area of interest: architecture. She also entered the Toronto Star Short Story Contest and the ‘Speak Out Against Violence’ writing contest. Anybody else interested in architecture.

Maureen K. Gr.12, is in MacKenzie Secondary semestered classes so she can attend the Ontario Science Centre School this term.

Michelle L. (OAC), Sarah H. (OAC), Michelle L. (OAC) and Andrea N. are busy on the yearbook.

Kate A. (Gr. 9)

visited the Canadian Author’s Association (see database of activities) and found out all about writing. All you writers should get together.

Alexis C. (Gr. 10)

will be trying for the Duke of Edinburgh Award. (see activities database) She is also going to take a pottery course and is involved in researching and creating a family tree. Alexis just got notice that she was accepted for Encounters with Canada. She will be in Ottawa in the Science & Tech course from Feb. 4-10. Congrats.

Irme C. (Gr. 10) went to the Open Mike Show Audience Participation at a local TV station. (see your database for contacts) Good fun with a group of friends. FREE

Emily Z. (Gr. 10)

joined the army cadets. There are a number of you who enjoy the armed forces. Get in touch with Emily and start an interest group.

Anne C. (Gr. 12)

will be going to Greece with Mr. C.’s group during March Break. She is busy learning Greek.

Amanda DeF. (Gr. 10)

worked for a local MP during the election.(He lost) Amanda also sent two articles which hopefully will be published in In 2 Print (see database of activities). If you like to write or would like experience at being a journalist, see the In 2 Print listing.

Francine D. (Gr. 9) has signed up for Salsa dancing at a local community centre. Hot!!

Karen L. (OAC) has a new interest in Forensic Science. Anybody else interested? Get an interest group together.

Nadia N. (OAC) is taking a videography course at the Art Gallery Ontario with Chiharu H. She says it is awesome.

Carolyn M. (OAC) has been selected to attend Forum 2001 (see database of activities Forum for Young Canadians) She will be spending time in Ottawa learning about how government works. Congratulations!!

Cristina C. (Gr. 12)

got an article published in the Catholic Register in January. Congratulations.

The following from our group attended and heard Gordon Thiessen, Governor of the Bank of Canada, at the Canadian Club of Canada Speakers Luncheon: Sarah H., Carolyn M., Michelle L., Talia L., Michelle H. This was a very rare opportunity to attend. Somebody had great connections to get this for us.
