*****What Students In the Gifted Program Have Been Doing*****
Janice C., Gr. 11, won an award for being in at least 5 music activities with the LAT band and music program.
SPECIAL NOTICE: Janice just found out that she is a semi-finalist in the poetry.com poetry contest!! She will be eligible for a $1000 prize. They also told her they want her poem published in their new poetry collection called "The Silence Within". See her poem "The Flittering Butterfly" in the last issue of the LA Times. As well, Janice just received the award for the "TOP GRADE 10 MATH STUDENT".
Justine W., Gr. 11, is going to Hong Kong for the summer. She will be working there for Pacific Centry Cyberworks doing office work as well as visiting.
Yi-Mei T., Gr. 11, will be in France and taking an OAC Credit course in French through the Peel Board of Education.
Yi-Mei and Justine also wrote the Advanced Placement exam in Psychology just recently. Hope you get the university level credit.
Jennifer H., OAC, and Carolyn M., OAC, (so far) have received Millenium Scholarships.
Alexis C. and Allison M. participated in the Elementary Gifted Conference held at OISE/UT on May 16 and 17. Indeed, last Thursday, they presented an awesome workshop on How to Relieve Stress.
We say goodbye to 26 OAC students who were in the gifted program over the last 5 years. Con-grad-ulations and all kinds of success in your future. It was a pleasure working with you all.
We are getting 23 new Grade 9’s coming into the program in September!!! This is the largest group we have had since the present graduating group. In total we have about 100 students in the program each year. That is about 10% of the school population.
Alexis C., Gr. 10, attended the HOBY weekend in the middle of May. Talk about a pumped up weekend of developing leadership skills.
Sarah H., OAC, is the moderator of an online chat group called: "Newsgroup". Sarah is taking a year off to work around the world, especially Australia/New Zealand through an exchange program.
Valerie P., OAC, is graduating and seeking employment in Costa Rica at a Children’s Art Museum to teach children English.
Andrea L., Gr. 9, has developed her own website.
The following students went to Kingston for the Queen’s U. Mini-Enrichment Program: Olivia M.(gr.9), Amelia M. (Gr.9), Karen L. (OAC), Anne C. (Gr.12), Nathalie O. (Gr.9). In Forensic Science they went to the morgue and viewed something to do with an autopsy. The Veterinary Medicine students were gowned up and did neutering operations on cats!! The courses are excellent. You get exposure in one area for a whole week, get a good feel for university and residences and get to explore for a career. Grades 9-12 would be best to go but all are welcome. Try next year. The cost is about $460 for everything except lunch & incidental spending.
Ashleigh S., Gr. 9, has a new website for gifted girls called:
http://giftedgurlz.tripod.com She would love to have you contribute to it and the guestbook.

The following movies are considered to be some of the best suspense-thrillers – if you are brave enough to watch them!
1. The Big Easy
2. L.A. Confidential
3. Rear Window
4. Dead Again

NOTICE!!!
Please do not hold Da Boz responsible for the frustration, sleeplessness and annoyance the following may cause you.
Do not: send a stalker or hate mail, sue, hire a hitman, take over his office, cry to your momma, send him a bus ticket to Shawinigan or do anything else that might be suspiciously revengeful and force a restraining order or worse against you.
(BEE AVARE! VEE HAFF GUTT KVIET VAYS UF MAKKING YOO PAY FUR YOOR FEEBLE ATTEMPTZ UT REFENJE!! ZO DUN’T TRYS ZENNYZINK!!)
STRANGE PHENOMENON: if you open a new document in Microsoft Word and type: =rand(200,99) then press ‘enter’, you will get a puzzling surprise. If you can figure out why this happens, contact Microsoft and they will give you a BIG reward. They don’t have a clue as to why this ‘defect’ is happening. Do you?
Change either of the numbers inside the brackets, press "enter" and note what happens. Start off with small numbers and notice the pattern. Let me know anytime in the year if you figure it out so I can get the reward, ha,ha,ha!!
Have a great summer.
"See you in September"(la,la,la,la, see you in….. This is a real song, by the way. Can you find it? It’s a nice one.)
Da Boz (waving into the sunset)
