Good Reads
(send us your best)
"The Ingenuity Gap" by Thomas Homer-Dixon. His idea is that technology is not the saviour we think it is and that we need to look to churches for wisdom that might help save us from ourselves. People are too individualistic and major world problems can’t be solved with that attitude. If all we care about is the marketplace and the business of buying and selling, we lose perspective. Our moral response is a vital part of our survival. Have a read.
If you haven’t read the Harry Potter series, I just completed the fourth and loved them. They are as creative as the Lord of the Rings series (also worthwhile) and very enjoyable reading. Try them.
"Doing the Laundry" True Funny Stories
-somebody accidentally put two small pet turtles in the laundry. They were found as green and red streaks and smashed bodies in the "clean" clothes.
-a little kid smeared Penaten cream on her socks, pants and turtleneck. This waterproof cream covered and coated everything in the washer.
-in a South American laundromat, a tourist left some clothes in a gorgeous, hand-woven, one-of-a-kind, palm bag. The launder threw everything into the wash and it ended up as a tangled, matted, mess of dryer-shrunken organic material.
-a young girl trying to be helpful washed a bag of laundry meant for the dry cleaner. Silk blouses and dress shirts came out tie-dyed. The girl cried so much, mom told her that they didn’t fit anymore.
-the next morning after doing the laundry, a woman’s husband went downstairs into a stinky, slimy, soapy pond. She had forgotten to take out the sink’s water stopper and the septic tank overflowed at the same time.
-a woman washed her husband’s passport accidentally three days before he was leaving the country.
-two small kids left crayons in the pockets of their new winter coats. Melted crayons were all over the dryer and the kids got new multi-coloured coats for the rest of the winter.
Joke of the Month
(Just to prepare you. Yes it is rather warped. This was a real one I heard when I was a kid. It stuck with me all these years and has been driving me crazy. I thought if I got it out on paper and dealt with the realities of it that it would leave my system forever. After writing it out I feel much better and the demon shall not haunt me anymore. Thank you very much.)
If it takes 5 days for 5 cats to catch 5 mice, how many pancakes can you bake on a hot tin roof? Answer: 57 because footballs don’t have feathers.
Here is another one that is a little bent. This should be howlingly funny:
You probably don’t know this but I once had a serious psychological problem. I thought I was a wolf. I had a lot of problems with it and went for counselling. After years of therapy I was able to resolve it and
I’m ok now…oooo...oo...oo…oo…oooo.
Answer to the True Facts Question:
Canada’s most expensive hotel room is Toronto’s Park Hyatt’s Algonquin Suite ($4000/night)(You better sleep well or else and don’t go out and come in late or you won’t get your money’s worth)
See you next month.
