Giftedness and Crime
(source: Rita Culross, Ph.D.)
http://www.familyeducation.com/experts/advice/0,1183,25-26300,00.html)
"According to Marylou Kelly Streznewski in her book "Gifted Grown Ups: The Mixed Blessings of Extraordinary Potential," gifted people may make up as much as 20 percent of the prison population. Given that estimates of giftedness in the population range from 3 to 5 percent, her data suggests that the gifted are over-represented in the prison population. The majority of inmates are young males, often from lower socioeconomic groups. (It is also true that their crime victims share those demographics.)
The more important questions relate to why the gifted become involved in crime. Although a certain level of intelligence is required for some crimes (e.g., computer hackers), it seems counterintuitive that bright people with potential would choose a life of crime. Some researchers have theorized that gifted individuals who turn to crime lack a well-developed sense of morality. They lack control over their own behavior or are not guided by a strong sense of right and wrong. The gifted criminal may consider crime a challenge: Can I do this and not get caught? Other researchers point to biological factors or inconsistent parenting as the origins of criminal behavior. A person who does not fit in or who feels isolated may commit crimes as a way to be accepted (e.g., in a gang).
As the tragic events of 9/11 have shown us, bright individuals can engage in evil acts."
According to "Kids Who Know Too Much", studies show that 50% of death row prisoners in two US states have IQ's of 130+. Another study showed that 17% of all federal penitentiary criminals had IQs of 130+. The average IQ of kidnappers is 142. Think what they could have accomplished had they been appropriately nurtured and educated?

Dr. Henry Morgentaler Award Protest
In June, 2005, the University of Western Ontario, in London, is to award an honorary degree to Dr. Henry Morgentaler for his work in providing abortion clinics to Canadian women. As a champion for women’s rights, his efforts have led to what some consider equivalent to another "Holocaust." The difference seems to be that millions of unborn children are now allowed to be killed legally.

Soul Healing at a Cellular Level
(based on an article by Carmen Thivierge, The Natural Healer Magazine)
When people get sick, they often blame something outside of themselves. It is suggested that in many cases we create internal conditions that are responsible for the development of minor and major illness and disease.
Besides supporting our physical bodies, it is also important to support our spiritual and emotional inner selves. Complete healing comes about when both of these two areas are addressed effectively.
If the emotional core issues are not resolved, our bodies show the turmoil as illness or conditions. Chemical changes take place as a reaction to stress. All of our cells feel the emotional pain and react accordingly and this situation then shows itself as physical symptoms of inner problems. In other words, deep within us, we have created the illnesses that are physically killing or incapacitating us.
What to do?
This release can bring about personal peace and eventually forgiveness. Energy will begin again in a positive way. The wisdom and power of the body can transform cells.
The ultimate goal is to reach the core of our being and the core of the painful emotions in order to "complete the story" and release it. Many people get themselves through one side of a hurricane and are in the relatively comfortable but tension-producing "eye" but that is not the best place to be. To get out to where you want to be – back at the source of your life – one must go back through the storm to get to the other side of it. This means working through the pain, suffering, agony, fears, panic, loneliness, despair and hopelessness – not just reliving it.
Coming out on the other side of the hurricane usually leads to peace, freedom, joy, a sense of completeness and love of self and others. Difficult? Extremely. Memory processing techniques, however, show us the unbelievable wisdom and healing powers we all possess.

Computer Top Tip
Easy Highlighting: While using the mouse, it is often easier to highlight from the end of a word/sentence back to the front of it. It can decrease the annoying overshooting into other words/sentences. This applies to highlighting major parts of spreadsheets as well. Start at the end of the document or line you want and highlight backward to the top.
If you must highlight downward on spreadsheets or word documents, it is sometimes easier and less frustrating to locate the cursor at a starting point and then hold down the "Shift" key and use the arrow keys to highlight. This procedure slows the speed of the highlighting.

Massive Change
(based on an article by Michael Swan, the Catholic Register)
The Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto, Canada had an exhibit entitled "Massive Change" by Bruce Mau. The exhibit attempts to engage viewers in an experience of the whole world – all things visible and invisible, all human experience and beyond human experience.
"Now that we can do almost anything, what will we do?" is the big question that the exhibit entices viewers to contemplate and think deeply about. There is an understanding that our science and technology has empowered us greatly to modify the earth in ways unimaginable only a few decades ago.
From the exhibits and interactive displays come several powerful statements that are related to the immense question that is asked.
Here are some of the exhibit’s suggestions for answers:
"We will eradicate poverty."
"We will seamlessly integrate all supply and demand around the world."
"We will build a global mind."
"We will shift from the service of war to the service of life."
As one can see, the statements reflect a truly "grand, grandly optimistic, unstintingly humanist vision." There is a support of globalization as well.
(Ed: Here are some other suggested answers: We will establish a workplace that cares for and nurtures workers and their spirits. We will move from a profit-oriented society to a sustainability society. We will strengthen human relationships in an environment of love and respect for others.
CHALLENGE: What other answers would you suggest to the big question? Send us your ideas

How to Stop Junk Mail and Silent Phone Calls
(Andy Rooney tips)
Silent Phone Calls: What you can do after answering, if you notice there is no one there, is to immediately start hitting your # button on the phone, 6 or 7 times, as quickly as possible. This confuses the machine that automatically dialed the call and it kicks your number out of their system. Gosh, what a shame not to have your name in their system any longer!
Junk Mail Help: When you get "ads" enclosed with your phone or utility bill, return these "ads" with your payment. Let the sending companies throw their own junk mail away.
When you get those "pre-approved" letters in the mail for everything from credit cards to 2nd mortgages and similar type junk, do not throw away the return envelope. Most of these come with postage-paid return envelopes, right? It costs them more than the regular postage "IF" and when they receive them back.
It costs them nothing if you throw them away! The postage is around 50 cents and may be according to the weight. In that case, why not get rid of some of your other junk mail and put it in these cool little, postage-paid return envelopes.
Send an ad for your local chimney cleaner to American Express. Send a pizza coupon to Citibank. If you didn't get anything else that day, then just send them their blank application back! If you want to remain anonymous, just make sure your name isn't on anything you send them. You can even send the envelope back empty if you want to just to keep them guessing! It still costs them postage.
The banks and credit card companies are currently getting a lot of their own junk back in the mail, but folks, we need to OVERWHELM them. Let's let them know what it's like to get lots of junk mail, and best of all they're paying for it...Twice!
Let's help keep our postal service busy since they are saying that e-mail is cutting into their business profits, and that's why they need to increase postage costs again. You get the idea!
If enough people follow these tips, it will work.

Jokes of the Month
A general noticed one of his soldiers behaving oddly. The soldier would pick up any piece of paper he found, frown and say: "That's not it" and put it down again. This went on for some time, until the general arranged to have the soldier psychologically tested. The psychologist concluded that the soldier was deranged, and wrote out his discharge from the army. The soldier picked it up, smiled and said: "That's it."
